Colombia is gearing up to train more than 1,100 graduates in Scrum agile software development, as the Latin Americancountry looks to grab a larger slice of the global IT services market.

The country’s software association Fedesoft and national training service SENA will jointly run the training program. Scrum agile software development improves productivity and helps IT companies achieve higher levels of quality, stated technology association Colombia Digital in a press release.

Scrum is an iterative software development framework, which is flexible and described as a ‘holistic product development strategy.’

The training, due to begin sometime in June this year, will take place in Colombian cities including Bogotá, Medellín, Manizales, Armenia, Pereira, Cali, Cartagena and Bucaramanga.

Analysts often said that skilled IT professionals were the primary requirement for Colombia to realize its dream to double the IT segment revenue by 2014.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has recently lent Colombia $12 million to help promote the country’s outsourcing services industry. Colombia has immense potential to grow up as a global outsourcing destination, the IDB said.
